The One That Got Away

Mrs. A. Handmade Finds Vintage Finds

It was just another day of garage sales and estate sales when Mrs. B. spotted two beautiful quilt tops.  Being a quilter herself and seeing the value of these delicately hand-pieced works of art, Mrs. B. quickly decided to purchase them.  Have you ever wondered about the story behind a quilt?  Whose hands put these pieces together?  What did they intend to do with the quilt top once it was finished?  Why did they choose this pattern or these colors?  Every quilt has a story and this quilt top was just waiting for someone to complete its story.

Vintage Red Heart Quilt Top

This is a very unique quilt top and apparently one-of-a-kind because we weren’t able to locate another one like it.  It is totally hand-pieced. Each block contains a single wedding ring comprised of floral cotton fabric (possibly feedsack fabric) and four red hearts. The completed blocks are 11.25″ x 11.25″ and are accented with red and white checked fabric. The entire quilt top is pieced together with muslin and measures 78.5″ x 67.5″.  It is pictured on a full-sized bed in the photo above.

We listed it in our Etsy Shop and it sold very quickly to a buyer in Missouri.  We were thankful it found a home so quickly, but questions still remain about the quilt top.

We would love to know the pattern name of this quilt top!!

Could anyone help us out with more information about The One That Got Away without being identified?

I love quilts because it takes me back to my time with Grandma. Someone made this top with skill and care. Thanks for sharing it with us, Mrs A.

Oh sure, that quilt pattern is Heart Like a Wheel.
Just kidding! I have never seen it either.
My daughter used to put hearts over mistakes she made in coloring or writing. (many years ago) Maybe that’s how this pattern was conceived!
